Craig Haack, 22, began racing Legend cars in 1997. Competing weekly at Nashville (Tenn.) Fairground's Speedway and Twin Fountains Raceway, Haack won his first feature in his rookie season. In his second season, the son of professional racing mechanic Roger Haack raced to 11th in the season-ending point championship in Nashville and sixth at Twin Fountains. Haack finished second in points in that season's Semi-Pro division of the Brooks & Dunn Summer Shootout Legend Series. The Tennessee-native used his third racing season, 1999, as a springboard to greater heights. He raced in 43 events at nine tracks in four states and won his first championship, the Tennessee State Semi-Pro Legend Championship, and finished sixth in the National Semi-Pro point standings. In 2000, Haack further strengthened his skills by competing in 50 races in six states winning an incredible 28 feature events, 56% of those he entered. That season, he added to his championship trophies with the Tennessee State Pro Division title and was third in the Legend cars National title chase. Changing focus slightly in 2001, Haack raced in 'only' 26 events in three states taking nine feature and 23 top-five finishes. Haack followed that with multiple Legend car wins and top-fives in 2002 and 2003. Haack joined MHE2
Motorsports' Baby Grand Stock Car Association (BGSCA) program in early
2003. While Haack was new to the much faster and more sophisticated Baby
Grand, he immediately excelled in the #52 of MHE2. The combination of
Haack and the 2001 BGSCA championship team won several regional and national
events throughout Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Indiana and in
their first season together.
